I position my practice in a liminal space between threshold and the gut. A threshold can be an entrance/exit, or a point at which a physiological or psychological effect begins. It is the zone of promise, of possible advancement; before it, there is stalled comfort, beyond it, there is exhausted failure. The gut, is where intuitive understanding resides, found deep in the body. The working space between the threshold and the gut involves a balance of process and play; I create visceral abstractions that emerge as I coax forms into existence. Conceptually rooted in and to the body, my art takes many forms in different media. As I develop a series, I tend to latch on to a process: slicing, stitching and adhering print media and photographs, or textiles with industrial materials to create compositions and objects; forming arterial connections with yarn and felt; or manipulating foam and plaster to amass forms that edge towards the uncanny. I trust in the process and my gut, teetering at the threshold, and allow pieces to reveal themselves.
